 | 01:56 pm Work and back, eight miles and change. Actually going down Hancock and taking a few side streets until I get to Dale, cut across the park and over the Uintah pedestrian bridge and up my side street is a lovely and stress free ride. Since most of this was downhill I didn't do much in the way of pedalling home but I did endeavor to be consistent! Lights coming home weren't as bad as last time tho.
Now I have to go downtown to take care of some business but that can wait a half-hour.

 | 10:56 am - Advisory Board Nominations Open Advisory Board Nominations Begin
This morning we are opening the nomination process for the user-representative positions on the LiveJournal Advisory Board. A full description of the process can be found here.
To get you started, here are the basic things you should know:
- You may only nominate yourself - Each nominee will need 100 motions of support in order to be eligible to be a candidate - We ask that you keep your comments on the nomination posts to "I support this nomination" or something to that effect; be kind to those who will need to count the "supports", please. - Although the nominations and election poll will take place in lj_election_en, you do not need to watch the community in order to keep up with the election; we'll announce everything here as well.
Everyone here at LiveJournal is looking forward to this first-ever User-Representative election! We'd like to thank everyone who is participating. Some words from our current Advisory Board members:
danah boyd: “LiveJournal is filled with very passionate users. These users have helped shaped LJ's various communities over the last decade and it gives me great joy that LJ is recognizing and incorporating users' voices into the decision-making processes. Having user representatives from different parts of LJ on the Advisory Board will help make sure that the company is meeting the needs of its diverse constituents.”
Esther Dyson: "I'm sure we'll learn a lot from the process, and later on from the two users selected as well. Especially, I hope that the discussions before the voting will be more meaningful and more focused on policy than those in some offline campaigns."
Brad Fitzpatrick: "It's cool that SUP is getting users involved with the LiveJournal decision-making process. I look forward to seeing who the community elects and the results of our efforts working together."
Professor Lawrence Lessig: “The user elections will provide a critical check on LJ's process of maintaining a valuable and trustworthy environment for the LJ community. The mandate of the elections will give the user representatives pride of place among the members of the Advisory Board. Each of us will look to them to guide us in our judgment about how best to make LJ the community we all aspire that it will be. I look forward to welcoming the user representatives, and learning a great deal from them.”
chasethestars has also made some banners for you to use, if you'd like to show your support for the candidate of your choice!

 | 03:11 pm - exceedingly egregious This afternoon I went for a brief ride in my car. Like an idiot I left my mp3 player at home and decided to turn on the radio which is perpetually set to 1530 AM KCMN. Herman Bockelman was doing his show "Europe Today" which usually has decent classical music and stuff that doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of being broadcast in the Republic of the United States of America. I have two complaints about his program. "Europe Today" is on at the same time as the delightful Thomas Jefferson Hour. Bockelman's show is very right-wing like the rest of the non-musical and non-informercial programming on this AM station. When the music stopped he read a letter from a Tom in Colorado Springs which bemoaned the current state of our Republic's economy. What made me facepalm and wish I had brought something to listen to was the declaration that ever since the Democrats took over Congress things have been going downhill. Must blame always be assigned to one group or another group? Is it simply more economical to pass the buck and blame everyone rather than rolling up one's sleeves and taking charge of the situation for the greater good? Would I be right in my assessment that politics simply is a way of making the citizens and subjects of a country believe their opinion actually counts for something more than hot air keeping them placid rather than having them face the harsh reality that their vote truly doesn't count and that They, yes "They", will do as they damned well please regardless of the constituency? Right now I believe a fascist dictatorship would be far more honest system of government rather than a democratic republic. Politics are the opiate of the people and the most frightening aspect is how politics dovetails so nicely with religion.

 | 07:09 pm I will not have phone or internet access at home until sometime on Saturday.
My cycling commute took a bit more than a half hour. I believe I left around 5:30 - 5:35 this morning. When I pulled into the parking lot the public clock across the way said it was 6:07 a.m..
Coming home took a little longer despite it being mostly downhill. About forty minutes.

tl;dr
1) Expelled quotes Charles Darwin selectively to connect his ideas to eugenics and the Holocaust. 2) Ben Stein's speech to a crowded auditorium in the film was a setup. 3) Scientists in the film thought they were being interviewed for a different movie. 4) The ID-sympathetic researcher whom the film paints as having lost his job at the Smithsonian Institution was never an employee there. 5) Science does not reject religious or "design-based" explanations because of dogmatic atheism. 6) Many evolutionary biologists are religious and many religious people accept evolution.

 | 05:36 pm - Your personal hydration unit is fitted desert fashion. Who told you how to do that? My personal hydration unit fits just fine. A bit snug around the waist and I've extended the belts as far as they can go. Nine pounds doesn't feel like much but I'm not riding with this fucker on my back just sitting in front of the computer getting used to it. This is pretty keen plus it does have decent space to carry stuff. I'm expected to bring flour tortillas to work.

 | 05:12 pm - first commute Friday morning I will engage in my first bicycle commute to work. The first time I rode my bike to work was in March of 2004. This was merely a lark and done during work hours. I had been sent home early for the day since things were slow. If I recall correctly I know that I went to work a shopteacher's handful of times with my bike but most of the journey was on the #5 bus. My day begins at 5:30-ish and I hope to arrive early or on-time at work. Right now I'm preparing by filtering water in my Brita to fill my personal hydration unit. Most of the stuff that I'll need on Friday is already packed in it.
